Huawei could steal “intimate” information about British citizens if given full access to the UK’s 5G network, the US government has said in its strongest warning yet about the Chinese tech giant.
Robert O’Brien, President Trump’s national security adviser, said allowing Huawei into British telecoms infrastructure also risked “wholesale state secrets” being stolen.
Since concerns were first raised about plans to allow Huawei access to the core of 5G mobile networks in the UK, the Government has twice postponed its decision on whether to go ahead. A decision is now expected after Parliament returns on January 7.
